Chapter 3: Writing Articles for our Website(s) |
| 3.1 General Information |
Index |
As a member of the MaxLifestyle.net network we invite you to share your knowledge and/or experiences with the other members and visitors of our many websites. Towards this purpose we have created an interface that easily allows you to write and subject entire articles. This process works as follows:
- Through the Article Entry form you can submit your own articles. This will be explained in more detail in the next sections.
- A MaxLifestyle.net staff member will receive a notification by the system informing him/her of your contribution. The staff member will now review your work and make adjustements where necessary.
- If the article is found to be fitting to our network and subjects the staff member will be able to use in the following ways:
- The Article can be approved as a whole and be given its own webpage on one or more of our websites.
- If your Article complements an existing article then your information could be added to one or more of our existing articles.
- What ever happens you will be notified through email of the outcome and should your article be used in any way on our websites we will make sure to include the proper acknowledgements.
If you decide to contribute an article then please be aware of the following:
- We reserve the right to decline and refuse any article that you might submit to us. Contributing content does not guarantee any placement of that content on our website.
- We reserve the right to alter, edit or ammend your contributed content in any way that we see fit.
- Content contributed by you becomes our intellectual property and upon publication we hold all copyrights.

| 3.2 Inserting Articles into our System |
Index |
You can submit articles through any of the Member Sites on any of the websites in our Network. To do so sign into the member site and select the option 'Write an Article' from the Member Site Menu. You will now be given the interface for inserting your article:
- Subject: our network handles a multitude of subjects and each of our articles belongs to one or more of these subjects. Select the subject that best suits your article. Should your article fall under a subject not in the list then use the Comments field to explain about the subject of your article.
- Title: give a short but descriptive title to your article. Make sure the article is no longer than 200 characters. Avoid using hype words like best, biggest, etc. The title should be intriguing and should describe your article well.
- Short Summary: give a short but good covering summary of your article. Use up to 200 characters. This summary will be shown in search results and in article listings. Make sure the summary is attractive.
- Keywords: give a number of keywords that describe your article. Again 200 characters is the maximum length. Make sure to separate the keywords with a space.
- Article Content: this is the actual content of your article. We recommend you write your articles in a normal word processor like MS-Word and only enter it here at the moment you really want to submit it.
- Placement/Comments: you can use this space to pass along comments to the reviewing staff member. You can make suggestions for placement of the article on the website(s) and you can refer to images that you would suggest for adding to the article.
Please Note!
Depending on the Internet Browser that you are using you will be using one of the following two interfaces:
- Internet Explorer 5+: this interface is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get interface very simular to those found in word processing programs. It will allow you to format your article realtime by using the buttons and options given by the interface. It even allows copy-pasting with layout consistency. If you have a browser that is IE5+ compatible then we recommend using this for submitting your articles.
- Old Browser Interface: this interface uses so called tags to format your content and it is the interface you will see if your browser is not IE5+ compatible. By using the 'Mode' selection box you can choose between two formatting methods:
- Prompt: in this modus you will get a popup asking you for the content you want to format. It will then insert the text including tags once you are done.
- Tags: in this modus the system will insert tags at the location that you want to format.
This interface uses tags which work as follows: all text that you want to have formatted should be surrounded by an opening and closing tag. For instance to have a bold text type the following Bold Text. The result will look like this: Bold Text.
Because this system is a lot more difficult to use we highly recommend using the IE5+ interface. You can download the latest IE Browser from the internet.

| 3.3 Layout Tips & Using Images |
Index |
Layout
In general we go by the rule: less is better. Do not use a lot of formatting like bold, underscore and italic as it will not improve the readability of your article. We do recommend using bold to accentuate some keywords in your text and make sure to use bullets to present your information in a structures and easy readable way.
Tips
Use you own favorite word processor to write your articles and only submit them at the very end. If you are not proficient in layouting and formatting just leave the text unformatted and our staff will make sure it is turned into an attractive article. Make sure to store your article on your own PC just in case something goes wrong with inserting the article.
Using Images
An image can tell you more than a 1000 words. This is why we highly recommend the usage of images, schematics and illustrations to better explain your message. Through both interfaces you will be able to easily add a picture to your content. We however also recommend you to place references to the images you would like to use in the Comments box. In this way our staff can retouch the picture or even create a new one. You can Contact our Staff and email any content you would like to have added at any time.
